MAT MAT Library Opens at Nettle Café, Port Sunlight

Material Matters is delighted to announce the opening of the MAT MAT Library at Nettle Café in Port Sunlight.

The MAT MAT Library is a curated collection of books, publications, zines, poetry, photography and artist-led publishing, bringing together a growing selection of independent and self-published works from across the contemporary arts.

Developed as an extension of MAT MAT, the publishing imprint of Material Matters, the library aims to create an accessible space where visitors can discover new ideas, explore alternative forms of publishing, and engage with the work of artists, writers, photographers and poets working both locally and beyond.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Nettle Café for their support in helping bring this project to life. Their commitment to community, creativity and independent culture makes them the perfect home for this evolving collection. By hosting the library, Nettle is helping to amplify the voices of independent publishers and artists, ensuring these publications can be discovered by new audiences.

The MAT MAT Library is very much a living project. Throughout 2026, the collection will continue to grow as we collaborate with artists, writers and makers to develop and release new publications under the MAT MAT publishing label. Alongside future releases, we hope to introduce launches, reading groups, discussions and other opportunities for people to engage with independent publishing.

Whether you're interested in contemporary art, folklore, photography, poetry, experimental writing or artist books, we invite you to visit the MAT MAT Library, browse the shelves and discover something unexpected.

The library is now open at Nettle Café, Port Sunlight.
